STU men back on ice today
Published Saturday November 7th, 2009

The St. Thomas Tommies, who didn't have enough healthy bodies to play the Saint Mary's Huskies in AUS men's hockey conference action Friday night, are ready to go again.
The Tommies will take on the Acadia Axemen tonight at 7 p.m. and face the Huskies on Sunday at 3 p.m., both at the Lady Beaverbrook Rink. (The Wolf 95.7 FM)
Tickets for tonight's game will be available until 5 p.m. at MacTavish Source for Sports.
The flu bug is still hampering the STU women's hockey team, though. The Tommies have been forced to postpone this afternoon's scheduled home game against Saint Mary's. No makeup date has been set.
In AUS men's play last night, Acadia edged the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus 3-2, the UPEI Panthers downed the Dalhousie Tigers 5-3 in Halifax and the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds rallied to beat the St. Francis Xavier X-Men 4-3 in overtime in Antigonish, N.S.
Alex Aldred helped the V-Reds raise their record to 7-0 by fooling St. FX goalie Bryan Gillis with a shot in OT.
Gillis had been brilliant up to that point.
Hunter Tremblay, Kyle Bailey and Luke Gallant scored in regulation for the V-Reds, who trailed 2-0 and 3-2.
Chris Hulit, Brennan Wray and Brett Morrison countered for the X-Men, who pick up a point for the OT loss. St. FX is two points back of UNB with a 5-1-2 record.
The Reds move on to Halifax to play the 1-4-2 Tigers at 7 p.m. (CHSR-FM 97.9).
Last night, Brandon Bigges hit the empty net with 1:24 left to seal UPEI's win over Dal.
Jared Gomes led the Panthers with two goals and an assist while Chad Locke added a goal and two assists. Brett Nasby also beat Chris Wall, who made 37 saves.
Trevor MacKenzie, Kyle Raftis and Jordan Villeneuve-Gagne replied for the Tigers against Wayne Savage, who stopped 34 shots.
The Panthers and Axemen share third place with eight points, one more than the fifth-place Tommies.
The Huskies are a point back of STU with two games in hand. UdeM and Dal are tied for seventh with four points apiece.
