The Dalhousie moosehead rangers of the north Shore Senior Hockey League flexed some muscles last week in picking up an exhibition game home win over the Cedrico of Causapscal.
The Rangers jumped out to a 4-2 lead after the first 20 minutes and coasted to a 7-3 win in front of about 1,000 fans at the Inch Arran Ice Palace Oct. 30 Scott Winchester scored the first and last goals for the Rangers with singles to Mathieu Savoie, Denzel Isaac, Kent Frees Junior Savoie and Eric Mockler. Phil Nazair picked up three assists while his former St. Arthur-Val d'Amour Avalanche teammate Ryan Court collected the win in goal.
The Avalanche were suspended for one year from the league for failing to send enough players to a playoff game last year in Causapscal so some players have found new teams for which to play this season.
The season was set to start on Thursday in Dalhousie when the Rangers were host the defending league champion Alpine of Tracadie-Sheila.
The schedule for the 2009-2010 season will consist of 24 games. The teams will play a balanced schedule with each team playing the others three times at home and three times on the road. Four teams in the league will play against the Rangers, Miramichi, Causapscal, Tracadie-Sheila and Caraquet. Also last week, the league approved a one-year leave of absence for Shippagan-Lameque.
For the playoffs, there will be a quarter-final best-of-five series between the 4th and 5th place teams. Following this series, there will be two semi finals, number one plays the winner of the quarter-final series while number two plays number three.
The winners of the two semi-finals square off in the league final next spring.
