The Grand Falls McCain Cataracts registered their 9th and 10th wins of the season in the Miramichi Valley Baseball League last Saturday evening at the Centennial Park after they swept a double header against Tracadie by scores of 4-0 in the first game and 5-4 in the nightcap.
In the opener, righthander Paul Chamberland picked up his first win on the mound, tossing a masterful three hitter. Chamberland, who fanned nine batters and walked only one, got a key double play from his defense in the sixth inning to record the shutout.
The Cataracts, who led 1-0, pushed across three runs in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a bases-loaded single from Jason Walsh. Rémi Légère, who gave up four runs and three earned, took the loss.
In the nightcap, Marc Michaud's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning scored Éric Moreau from third base, broke a 4-4 tie and gave the Cataracts the win. Mathieu Moreau had a perfect night at the plate with two doubles, a single, a walk and two RBIs.
Lefthander Rico Proulx recorded the win on the mound scattering six hits while Clint Hitchcock picked up the save working the seventh inning.
The Cataracts will play three games at home on the weekend against last place Chatham Head. A double header is set for Saturday evening beginning at 5 p.m. while the third game will be played on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
