Richibucto host to doubleheader

RICHIBUCTO - Sunday June 28 saw softball action in Richibucto, where the Richibucto Anchors hosted the Miramichi Vic's in a doubleheader. The Vic's took the first game, and the Anchors took the second.

In the first game the Anchors got up early on the Vic's scoring two quick runs in the first, to the Vic's one and another in the second to take the early lead. But the Vic's weren't out of the game yet as they would battle back in the fifth scoring seven runs to take a good lead of 8-3.

In the Next inning the Anchors would manage one run to the Vic's four, making the final score 12-4 for the Vic's. Brandon Gorman held on for the win allowing only four runs on eight hits with five walks and six strikeouts. Jeremy Arsenault took the loss allowing 12 runs on 16 hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Mark Deveaux led the Anchors offensively with one home run. The Vic's were led by Matt Hovey and Thomas McCarthy who both had a home run apiece, McCarthy also had both a single and a double through the course of the game.

In the second game the Vic's ran up three runs in the top of the first, but Richibucto came up strong scoring four.

The Anchors would continue their dominate scoring, driving in five in the second and another four in the third compared to the Vic's three in the third, making the score 13-6 in the Anchors' favour.

In the next inning the Anchors' scored three to the Vic's one to make it 16-7, this would be the final score as the Anchors would continue to hold the Vic's.

Jeremy Arsenault took the win allowing seven runs on 10 hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Brandon Gorman took the loss allowing 16 runs on t12 hits with eight walks and five strikeouts.

Offensively the Anchors were led by Mark Devenaux with two home runs, Jim Arsenault with two homeruns and a double, and Jim Gauvin who had one home run.

The Vic's were led by Billy Ahearn, Matt Hovey and Corey Stuart who all had one home run apiece.
