King finally tosses magic 400
Published Wednesday July 1st, 2009

The really big news this week is the magic 400 triple finally tossed out by "King" Paul Bernard (406), as well as the 396 triple by "Champ" Brad MacDonald. Just as great were the Sweeper Award winners, "Amazon" Wanda Hachey on Tuesday, and then "Princess" Phyllis Young on Thursday.
The "Money Man" Sonny Richard also lived up to his name once more by winning $500 on his scores in three boxes. Where does Sonny wear that lucky horseshoe? He even got an offer of a passionate "I love you" from one of the 20 or so invading fair maidens on lanes nine to 12.
Hard to believe!
Here now are some of the friendly battle results from the Tuesday Mixed Summer League action of June 23.
Match 1: Untouchables vs Glamorous Ones
The Untouchables Jim Conroy (325), "Lady" Mary Jane Dignam (328) and "Hurricane" Jeff Ferron (361) helped to skunk the good lookers Rob Ward (286) and Jamie Dignam (295). Rachel Ward and Jim Ashford had sixty-niners in the seventh box.
Match2: The Big 80 vs Mixed Nuts
The oldies barely managed one win from the potent nuts "King" Paul Bernard (406; 153, 128, 125), "Prince" Paul Gallant (335) and "Amazon" Wanda Hachey (337). The "Troubadour" Mike Dupleissie (329; 124) couldn't carry the whole squad, but he sure could hug them all, eh Mike?
Match 3: Country Bears vs Terry Toons
It was nice to see the return of "Bruins" Rollie Sturgeon from the operation on his neck artery. Those metal clips should also help ward off all those vampires I keep reading about. The hero here was "Champ" Brad MacDonald (397; 160, 11, 126) who knocked Cap'n John (318; 96, 109, 113) off his horse, not once, but three times, to help take two wins.
"Lady" Cathy Dunn won the $20 door prize, while "Amazon" Wanda Hachey, with "Hugress" Kaye Cusson matched with her last, won the very tough, non-handicapped, Sweeper Award.
The Thursday Drop-In League of June 25 saw two helium-filled balloons floating in the air to honour "Wizard" Terry Hare on his 27th (or was that 47th?) birthday. "Princess" Phyllis Young created a huge ice cream cake with a wizard design, that was soon gobbled up. Cap'n John presented Terry with two personal photographs, one signed by all the knights present. Everyone sang the customary "Happy Birthday".
One of the pots of gold went to "Amazon" Wanda Hachey (117 148).The second pot went to Maureen Campbell (131 18) and to Carolyn Matthews (134 15). The Chance-Pair Awards went to Allison Alcorn (374) and "King" Paul Bernard (395) in first place, followed by Donna McKinnon (365) and Maureen Campbell (387) in second, and "Sir" Ron Landry (361) and "Champ Friend" Hazel Richard (381) coming in third.
A minute of silence was held for the late knight "Lady" Linda Boucher who hailed from the Kingdom of Rogerville.
At the end of the night "Princess" Phyllis Young showed off her skill by winning the tough Sweeper Award, while "Money Man" Sonny Richard ran off with his recent $500 windfall! I didn't see any fair maidens follow him.
Special thanks to the "Amazon"and Kevin for their super barbecue and entertainment held at their Beaverbrook Ranch this past Saturday evening. What a night with knights!
